15th District candidates have different approaches to problems | Yakima Herald-Republic

 www.yakima-herald.com/stories/2010/09/25/15th-dist...-race

Pay close attention to the last quote from my opponent ... "Government now needs to lead the way."

We live the best country this world has ever known and our Founding Fathers established the framework to make it that way. Government has never and will never be the solution! It's time we return to the Constitutional principles this Country was founded upon and get Government out of our daily lives. We need a smaller, more constrained government that frees people to follow their dreams.

Well the weather has finally returned to normal and it seems everyone it working as fast as they can to get their crops in. It looks like we should have at least 9 more days of great weather. The Central Washington State Fair kicked off last Friday and should greatly benefit from the nice weather too. Last Friday night we attended a great fundraiser for Dino Rossi at the Wilkenson Estate ... wow, what a place, what a crowd and what a candidate!

Just a reminder, Tuesday September 28th is the House Republican Organizational Committee fundraiser/Meet and Greet. We'd really like to get as many people there as we can to show Central Washington is the "Conservative Center" of Washington State. I hope to see everyone there.

We have an opportunity this election to change the way government works in Washington State. We can return to the Constitutional principles this country was founded upon and we can bring the Priorities of Government back to Washington. http://chum.ly/n/3576a9

We are having some weird, crazy weather. Things are not looking good for the last cutting of hay, which could cause prices to jump significantly. We had a great evening at the Yakima County Medical Society forum last night and look forward to working with the group in the future.

Mark your calendars for a House Republican Organizational Committee on September 28, 2010 at the new Holiday Inn in Yakima (across from the Convention Center) from 5:30 to 8:30 PM. This is Central Washington's chance to meet members of the House Republican Caucus Leadership Team. I hope to see everyone there.

Finally a little quiet time. We had a very busy weekend filled with a whole lot of friends and family in and out of the house all weekend. Our good friend Tim Kunka, came over Friday night after interviewing for a Range Management job in Ellensburg. My mother in law also came in from southeastern Oregon Friday night for the weekend.

Brock and I went down to the Grand Ol Picnic in Underwood yesterday ... it was great. We got to see a lot of wonderful people and I gave an old fashion stump speech (actually standing on a tree stump). It was a lot of fun.

"There aren't any great men. There are just great challenges that ordinary men like you and me are forced by circumstances to meet." - Adm. William F. Halsey

This election marks an opportunity to elect individuals who are willing to face the great challenges facing our state and nation and meet them head-on.

VETERANS SHOW hands and receive applause for their service during Sunday’s Gorge Constitutional Tea Party rally in Dallesport. RaeLynn Ricarte photo

Tea Party rallies voters

1,800 attend political rally at regional airport

By RaeLynn Ricarte
The Dalles Chronicle

Brian Ahier of The Dalles joined a crowd of about 1,800 people at Sunday’s Gorge Constitutional Tea Party rally in Dallesport.
“This is not about Democrats or Republicans, it’s about common sense,” said Ahier, a city councilor. “Common sense would tell you that you can’t spend your way into prosperity and you can’t borrow your way out of debt. I think we have a major incumbent problem in D.C. and if they are not willing to restrain themselves we need to replace them.”
The theme that Pres. Barack Obama and Congress were “out of control” was woven through most of the comments made at the rally, which took place at the airport.
Keynote speaker Lars Larson, a Northwest and national radio talk show host, encouraged the audience, most of whom were Republicans, to get politically active. He said the future of America, the world’s “last great hope,” hinged upon its citizens holding leaders accountable to follow constitutional principles that limited the reach of government and maximized individual freedoms.
“This president increased our national public debt by $2.5 trillion dollars during his first 19 months in office. That is more debt than has been amassed by all other presidents combined,” said Larson. “We need to take our country back because we can’t waste the sacrifices that our military has made over the years to protect our freedoms.”
Two Washington State officials traveled to the gorge to attend the second rally organized during 2010 by Jerry Smith of Husum and other area residents. Rep. Bruce Chandler, R-Granger, and Rep. David Taylor, R-Moxee, said it was encouraging to see citizens exercising their right to assemble and speak freely about their concerns.
“If more people would come to events like this, it would really change the direction for this state and country,” said Chandler. “This election (November) is going to define a generation; it’s a watershed moment and these folks seem to understand how high the stakes are.”
Taylor told the crowd that they should hold government officials accountable but that they, as citizens and voters, also had to take responsibility for protecting their rights.
“This is not about politics, it’s about right and wrong,” he said.
Smith said the Gorge Tea Party, like similar groups across the nation, formed to provide citizens with a venue to protest government actions.
“We have a voter registration table set up and we want people to go away from here energized and ready to participate in the political process,” he said.
Smith said the first Klickitat County rally in the spring had drawn about 1,000 people and he anticipated that the size of the crowd would continue to grow with each subsequent event.
“People aren’t really happy about what is happening in this country right now and the tea parties are a grassroots movement to send that message to elected officials,” he said.
Jan Jones of Trout Lake and Bill Biersch of Glenwood have attended five tea party rallies to date and plan to be present for as many future gatherings as possible.
“We’ll do anything that we can do to fix this country,” said Jones.
Kenan Heppy and Joseph Jackson, both of Hood River, said they were drawn to the Dallesport rally out of curiosity.
“I just wanted to see who was here and to support the cause,” said Heppy.
Larson said the tea party movement formed primarily to warn Republicans that they needed to return to their conservative roots or lose support from their constituents. He said if elected officials do not get that message, it is likely that Tea Party activists will start a separate political movement. http://chum.ly/n/324dbb

Support Ref. 52 — Washington Environmental Council

 wecprotects.org/news/ref-52-jobs-bill-heads-to-the...allot

All, please do your homework before voting to approve Referendum 52. This bond issue asks the voters to approve general obligation bonds $505 million OUTSIDE the state debt limit, it will make the bottle water tax permanent to pay for the debt service, the debt service is estimated to be $72 million per year or $1.0 billion over twenty-five years, and will ultimately cause the state's bond rating to be downgraded costing the taxpayers an additional $3.5 to $7.0 million per $1 billion in financing costs.

The fact the the Washington Environmental Council supports passage of Ref. 52 ought to scare the heck out of all of us.

"Trust, but verify." - President Ronald Reagan

No truer words have ever been spoken, especially with Ref. 52.

We had a busy weekend down in Klickitat County. Saturday we attended the Huckleberry Festival in Bingen and I spent 30 minutes in the dunk tank to help raise money for the Sheriff's Toys for Tots program. On Sunday we attended the TEA Party in Dallesport ... what a great turnout. They estimated the crowd to be over 1,700 people from all over the Gorge. Molly and I got to meet Lars Larson, who shares many of my concerns with Wolf Management. It sounds like I may be on his radio show to discuss it ... holy cow! It's going to be a busy week, but I'm looking forward to the challenges and opportunities it will surely bring.

It's another busy day here in the Moxee Valley. Our first load of calves are headed to the sale this morning ... let's hope the price stays good. I'm playing in the Yakima Association of Realtors golf tournament today, which is always a great time. We might go up to Ellensburg tomorrow night for the high school football game against East Valley, but still haven't decided for certain. Saturday we're in Bingen for the Huckleberry Festival Parade and I'll be in the Sheriff's Dunk Tank from 12:30 to 1:00 PM to help raise money for the help raise money for their Toys for Tots program. Sunday we'll be in Dallesport for the TEA Party from 2:00 to 4:00 PM.

The Labor Day weekend marks the end of summer and is always filled with much to do. We sent a load of cattle to a rodeo yesterday and Molly went to Ellensburg to watch the rodeo. Today looks to be slow day for us, but we'll be at the Wapato Harvest Festival tomorrow for the parade.

I just got word from a friend who's having their Annual Horse Sale on September 18th. If anyone is looking for a young horse with great breeding, you should check this sale out.  www.promised-land-ranch.com.

"Where there is no vision, the people perish." - Proverbs 29:18

Throughout the campaign season, I encourage everyone to ask candidates what their vision is for the future of Washington State and the Nation. We need to get beyond the simple tag lines of "smaller government", "lower taxes" and "common sense". These are all great, but how will we accomplish it. Our leaders must put forth a plan to return to the Constitutional principles this Country and Washington State were founded upon.

It looks like the weather over the Labor Day Weekend will be very nice. Looking for something to do, check out Wapato's Harvest Festival parade Monday morning or head up to Ellensburg for the Fair and world famous Rodeo. It's the last weekend of the summer, so have some fun with friends and family.

"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy." - Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Over the past 18 months in the Legislature, I have watched people vote for legislation out of political convenience instead of having the moral courage to stand up and say NO! It's time We the People remind the Legislature who has the power in our Country and let them know they can either stand with us or we'll find someone who will.

It's another great morning in the Moxee Valley. We'll be out at Rosauers Friday (tomorrow) to see all the cattle producers and taste some really great BBQ. Monday we have the Wapato parade and a week from Saturday we have the Huckleberry Festival parade in Bingen. If you like everything huckleberry (ice cream, pie, scones, smoothies, jelly, etc.) check out the Huckleberry Festival.

"Aggressive fighting for the right is the greatest sport in the world." - President Theodore Roosevelt

I was recently asked how I handle being in Olympia among some of the most liberal people in Washington, I responded that "I have a chance to work with some really great people like Rep's Charles Ross, Joel Kretz, Matt Shea, and Richard DeBolt and, besides, it's a lot of fun." Yes, I said fun!

I love aggressively fighting for what is right and against what is wrong. This election is our chance to return the Constitutional principles this country was founded on to Washington DC and Olympia. http://chum.ly/n/2e5495
