2011 2nd Special Legislative Session Day 3

Aother day and another day of nothing. It feels like we never left this place. Mostly just sitting around waiting for the Democrat Majority to do something. I had my first committee meeting today and learned all the things the state is doing for economic development. Interestingly, no one actually discussed all the roadblocks the state has created which hurt economic development.

I'm really looking forward to the National Finals Rodeo kicking off tomorrow night. Hopefully someplace in Olympia will actually broadcast it.

Back home, we've been waiting for the Army to fix their fence. I got word yesterday that they are finally getting it done ... Yeah! As soon as it's fixed the rest of the cows get to come home.

2011 2nd Special Legislative Session Day 2

Somethings never change. Day 2 in Olympia and we still haven't done a darn thing. Today we spent the entire day waiting for the Democrat Majority to decide what they want to do, then suddenly Speaker Chopp graveled the days session to a close until tomorrow (Wednesday) at 10:00 AM. Tomorrow I have my first Committee meeting of the Special Session, followed by one on Thursday and 3 on Friday. It's going to be a long couple of days.

Proposed LEA Cuts in the News

Wapato School District pleads with lawmakers not to cut funding - NBC Right Now/KNDO/KNDU Tri-Cities, Yakima, WA |: www.kndu.com/story/16039719/wapato-school-district...nding

Except for reporting that Rep. Bruce Chandler and I are on the State Education Committee, not a bed job reporting on the issue.

I'm headed over to Olympia today to attend tomorrow's last Tribal Retrocession meeting.

November 12, 2011

Well the winter storm warning for the Cascades was right on the money. We had a little trouble getting a load of cattle and a horse over White Pass night and had to drive up there at about 9:00 PM to get the rig of the hill. Fun times had by all. Thankfully everyone and everything got home just fine. I finally got home around 12:30 AM.

Back to building fence today.

On this Veteran's Day, let's all give thanks to those men and women who protected this country from oppression and tyranny. Remember all our veterans gave some and some gave all. Please say a prayer for our service men and women overseas protecting our freedom today and let us not forget freedom is never free.

We had a busy week. I picked up a load of cattle in Tenino on Tuesday, stopped at Tim Kunka's Tuesday night, sorted a few more cattle to finish the load at Tim's Wednesday morning and got back to Moxee Wednesday afternoon. I spent the day in Goldendale yesterday with Rep. Chandler and Senator Honeyford visiting with the Goldendale School District, Chamber and a few folks from the Conservation District. We also taped a radio program for KLCK.

Emily headed over to Mossyrock with two horses to leave with Tim. I know I've said it before, but if you need a horse trained you need to contact Tim Kunka at timkunkatraining.com. Emily's going to pick up the last load of cattle and a horse Tim's had since August.

Robert and I are headed out to work on fence and we'll be hauling a few cows home this weekend. Only two weeks until Special Session and there's a lot to be done.

There are only 26 days until Special Session and we have about 90 days worth of work to do. We've been busy getting fence built, cattle hauled and finally got all the hay done for the year. We've even managed to get a little duck hunting in as well. The picture is from the other day and if you look close enough you will see there are two dogs in the picture. The pups are doing great, especially only being 6 months old.

It sounds like the House Democrats are going to try and put a tax increase to the voters through a Referendum in February or March. We still don't have a lot of details on what it will contain, but there's a possibility that it could be a 1.5 cent increase in sales tax. Not good news for the taxpayers of Washington. Did you know that Washington State is still receiving more revenue in this biennium than it did in the last? As crazy as it sounds, had the Democrat majority not increased spending by approximately $4.0 billion for the 2011-13 biennium, we wouldn't be facing a budget crisis. Now the Governor and Democrat majority want to make the budget deficit political and have proposed cuts that will harm rural Washington more urban Washington.

The next couple of weeks will be busy ones, with several meetings and one more trip to Olympia before Special Session. Next week I'll be in Goldendale on Thursday to meet with the Chamber, meeting with Wapato School District on the 14th, off to Olympia on the 16th for a Tribal Retrocession meeting, and an assortment of other meetings here in town in between.

Off to build fence, fill water, dig a ditch to run power out to the pens, and run to town for some truck parts. Have a great day everyone.
