I had a great weekend; it just wasn’t long enough. Molly and I were able to get a lot of errands done on Saturday and spent Sunday in Selah watching Tiffany play volleyball. The four-wheeler wasn’t running properly, so I worked on it Saturday afternoon and the guy I’ve got feeding for me was able to finish fixing it on Sunday. All in all, it was a productive weekend.
I started my Monday morning taping a radio segment with Reps Matt Shea and Jason Overstreet. We discussed reducing taxes, indefinite detention and unmanned aerial vehicles … just another episode expounding the virtues of freedom and liberty.
We have a Floor Session scheduled for 10:00 AM this morning and then I have a series of meeting leading up to my 3:30 Appropriation Committee meeting. Just another day in Olympia.

What a weekend! Molly and I had the opportunity to participate in the Love and Respect Conference in Richland over the weekend. It was a fantastic program and I would recommend it to anyone. Dr. Eggerich is a great presenter and the material is incredibly useful. We drove up to Spokane Saturday afternoon for Tiffany’s last volleyball tournament of 2012 club ball. While the tournament itself wasn’t all that great (the girls didn’t play that well) the trip itself was good. It was really nice just getting away for a couple of days with Molly.
I saw an article last week about how some economists think Washington could face a $1.7 billion budget shortfall next biennium. I’m not sure how to describe how frustrating that is to hear. We spent an entire Special Session"negotiating” a budget that left a budget reserve of approximately $340 million ... an amount that pays for less than 8 days of operation ... and now we could face another $1.7 billion deficit? At some point the Legislator’s need to let go of their"pet projects” and start prioritizing where we spend YOUR money.
Here’s a quote from our Founding Fathers ...
"If, then, the control of the people over the organs of their government be the measure of its republicanism, and I confess I know no other measure, it must be agreed that our governments have much less of republicanism than ought to have been expected; in other words, that the people have less regular control over their agents, than their rights and their interests require." --Thomas Jefferson, letter to John Taylor, 1816

Happy Friday the 13th everyone. I'm home and close to catching up on my sleep. Twenty-two and a half hours on the House Floor were a grind, but I'm happy to be home. We're headed over to Kirkland tonight for Tiffany's second to last a volleyball tournament of 2012. I'm looking forward to watching her play and spending some quality time with her and Molly.
I'm going to start trying to get caught up next week ... harrowing pastures, irrigating, fence building, yard work, etc. Hopefully the weather will be good.
Since there's not a lot to report on, here's a quote from our Founding Fathers ...
"There is not a single instance in history in which civil liberty was lost, and religious liberty preserved entire. If therefore we yield up our temporal property, we at the same time deliver the conscience into bondage." --John Witherspoon, The Dominion of Providence Over the Passions of Men. 1776
Have a great weekend and God bless.

Last day before the 2012 Regular Legislative Session begins. Based on what I'm hearing, this could be a nasty session, very partisan and lacking the focus necessary to finish within the 60-day limit. Case in point, the Democrat majority has decided to make Gay Marriage one of their priorities ... not the $1.5 billion budget deficit.
Molly left this morning for Tiffany's volleyball tournament in Tacoma. We had dinner with the team last night and then came back to Olympia. Good luck today girls.
Headed into the office later this morning to prepare for our Caucus meeting this afternoon on Priorities of Government. Tomorrow the work begins.

Came over to Olympia yesterday and got everything moved into my home away from home. Molly and Tiffany came over today and we're headed up to Tacoma for dinner with Tiffany's volleyball team, Team Yakima Black. They're playing in a tournament tomorrow in University Place.
We have a Caucus meeting tomorrow afternoon to continue of discussion on Priorities of Government. I'm looking forward to the discussion and hope we are able to make some progress in the process to develop our own priorities. On Monday morning, the 2012 Regular Legislative Session will begin.

[Resent id=12542195 2011-09-13 15:51:39 from davidtaylor] Well it's been a busy few days. Tiffany's volleyball season is in full swing and we spent roughly 9 hours in the gym in a hot, muggy gym on Saturday. The girls played good, but got pretty tired after a full day of games. On Sunday Nick Clark and I loaded out 7 tons of hay, while Robert went to Enumclaw to pick up cattle, then to Mossyrock to drop off cattle and then back to East Valley. Now I have a fairly full week of meetings, capped by the Joint Executive-Legislative Task Force on Tribal Retrocession on Friday in Toppenish.
I've been watching the Monastery Complex Fire outside Goldendale now for about a week. According to reports, the fire has burned about 4,250 acres with 50% containment, but don't expect to contain the fire until September 21st. There were quite a few homes destroyed so far and there's a chance a few more may be lost depending on what happens with the fire. Let's keep these folks in our prayers.
My truck still isn't working ... ugh! Ok, so we replaced the flywheel and got the transmission back aligned with the engine. Everything works fine, until we start to tighten the bolts attaching the transmission to the engine and then it binds up. I've got no idea what the problem could be, but I did get a few ideas from our friends at Carey Motors to try. We'll see what happens ... I just want my truck back.
Sunday marked the 10th anniversary of 9-11-01. Let us never forget those who gave all protecting the innocent victims. Good bless our first responders who keep us safe and our troops protecting this great country.

Labor Day weekend is here and the work continues ... {sigh}. On Friday we finally got the flywheel out of my truck and then searched high and low for a new one. We were finally able to get one shipped overnight (thanks Carquest) and I got it picked up yesterday morning. We spent the rest of the morning and early afternoon in Grandview watching Tiffany play volleyball. It was a little after 3:00 when we finally got home and I was able to get a few things done before watching Boise State completely school Georgia.
I'm getting ready to climb back under the truck this morning to start putting the flywheel back in, pull the transmission back into place and start bolting everything back together. We also need to finish putting the hay rake back together in order to get two of our custom fields ready to bale AND we still have some minor maintenance to do on the tractor (stupid wear washer) before we can begin baling.
Molly's headed up to the Ellensburg Rodeo tomorrow to hang out with "her girls", but I'm staying home. It sounds like this year's rodeo is going really well and the weather is just about perfect for it.

Good news here, Ruger (our Black Lab pup) is finally getting over is bout with Parvo. I worked him with three tennis balls the other night for blind retrieving and he did spectacular. Time to get him back on the pheasant scent and tracking birds through brush. I'm pretty anxious to get him working some real birds this fall.
Playing Mr. Mom (or taxi cab driver) all week. Today is the last day of volleyball "two-a-days" for Tiffany ... nothing like an 8:00 AM and 3:00 PM practice to totally interfere with getting things done during the day. Seems like every time I get something started it's time to leave the house again. I've been taking Tessa to soccer practice too, so add that in as well. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday ... 8:00 AM drop off Tiffany, 9:00 AM drop off Tessa, 10:00 AM Pick up Tiffany, 11:00 AM pick up Tessa, 3:00 PM drop off Tiffany. Down to single practices tomorrow ... can't wait.
It looks like the next couple of months could be fairly busy with constituent meetings, committee meetings and a possible Special Session. Back in July, it was reported the state is down to 6 to 8 weeks of cash left. That, coupled with what could be a terrible September revenue forecast, couple mean a very ugly fall in Washington.
Now is the time to start focusing on real job growth, real economic development and real fiscal sanity. I spoke to a builder yesterday who summed it up quite well. "Want economic development and job growth, get the government out of my way." Amen to that!

2011 Legislative Session
Day 63 - Yes, I missed several days ... Sorry Bout that. So what started out as a simple head cold, turned into a nasty chest infection. I finally went to the doctor on Friday ... those who know my history with doctors know that was no small task on Molly's part. A portion of a Z-PAC later and I'm feeling little better. I am so very proud of Tiffany, she played great this weekend at her tournament and is learning how to handle adversity very, very well. She's a real trooper, even when things don't go according to plan.
I'm back in Olympia tonight ... Snoqualmie Pass was about as much fun as getting a tooth pulled, but I made it ok. Just finished a good California Chicken Wrap from my favorite hangout and I'm getting ready to hit the pillow. Tonight was especially difficult to leave home ... the dogs seemed to know I was leaving again and kept wanting to be around me. Tougher than that was saying goodbye to Molly. She really keeps me centered and is my best advisor and friend. It sounds like Max G. might come over this week, which would be really great and another friend, John G, is supposed to be in town tomorrow.
