January 8, 2012

Last day before the 2012 Regular Legislative Session begins. Based on what I'm hearing, this could be a nasty session, very partisan and lacking the focus necessary to finish within the 60-day limit. Case in point, the Democrat majority has decided to make Gay Marriage one of their priorities ... not the $1.5 billion budget deficit.

Molly left this morning for Tiffany's volleyball tournament in Tacoma. We had dinner with the team last night and then came back to Olympia. Good luck today girls.

Headed into the office later this morning to prepare for our Caucus meeting this afternoon on Priorities of Government. Tomorrow the work begins.

January 7, 2012

Came over to Olympia yesterday and got everything moved into my home away from home. Molly and Tiffany came over today and we're headed up to Tacoma for dinner with Tiffany's volleyball team, Team Yakima Black. They're playing in a tournament tomorrow in University Place.

We have a Caucus meeting tomorrow afternoon to continue of discussion on Priorities of Government. I'm looking forward to the discussion and hope we are able to make some progress in the process to develop our own priorities. On Monday morning, the 2012 Regular Legislative Session will begin.

July 11, 2011

Wow, an interesting few days. Let's see, Brock played in his final Summer Baseball League tournament over the weekend. The kids played well at times, but didn't win any of their games. Brock seemed to enjoy the season, met some great kids and played for a couple of really good coaches.

Molly finally got her chickens on Saturday ... by Sunday 4 had escaped and were running around the yard. Fun times had by all, but we did get 4 farm fresh eggs yesterday. We also got a few pigs on Saturday and a new dog. Looks like I'll be hunting again real soon, with a new Black Lab.

I've been receiving a lot of email from constituents regarding the new Discover Pass. The idea was junk during session, which is why I voted against it, and is junk now that it's being enforced. I would encourage everyone to read through the exemptions before buying one ... you might not need to. Interestingly, the law has been in place 11 days and now we're hearing "we might need to make some changes to it". Seriously?!?!?!? Yet another example of passing a law in order to do "something" and fixing it later. Ladies and Gentlemen, you can't fix stupid.

2011 Legislative Session

Day 85 - I didn't post for a couple of days because I ended up going home over the weekend. While I didn't get to rest and relax at all, we did get a lot done. We've got some cattle out to pasture now, with another couple of loads to go. The horses look great and ran across the pasture to come see me for some attention. All in all things looks good. We went to Ellensburg on Sunday to watch Tiffany play volleyball. Team Yakima Black kicked some butt and won the tournament. The girls all played really well and I couldn't be prouder of Tiffany's play. She got a few kills and blocks, now we just need to teach her how to jump.

Back in Olympia now and we should be running a few bills this afternoon. The Democrats have published their proposed budget ... nothing really pretty there. Somehow they still think the state will have $32 billion in revenue for the 2011-13 budget, never mind revenue is about $5 billion behind their last budget projection.
