There wasn't a lot to report from yesterday. Mostly meetings and an opportunity to vote NO on another bill. It looks like we'll be debating the Supplemental Budget tonight, along with 3 other bills that are "necessary" to implement the budget. While the news will report the budget is a $480 million decrease, the fact is the budget only has $226 million in actual cuts, several fund transfers and use of some one-time money from the federal government. Two plus weeks in Olympia and we have this to show the taxpayers of Washington? Seriously, we need to be doing much, much more ... The taxpayers deserve better.

Rain, rain go away and don't come back until my hay is done! Ugh, the weather is not cooperating and neither is the equipment. We bought a "new" used rake and are already having problems with it. Not good news with the rain we're getting. We still have about 40 acres down with another 20 still to cut. Stupid weather!
Molly and I went to Spokane Valley last weekend where I spoke at a private property rights seminar. The program focused on shoreline and critical area regulations and was really well done. A portion covered the science, another covered the legal issues and I covered policies and politics. The folks who attended asked great questions and are really well informed.
We've got a small load of heifers coming in this weekend and will be sending a load of fresh roping steers to the westside later this month. We've got about 50 acres we need to get fenced before winter gets here, but that should go fairly easily assuming we don't run into new and exciting problems. :-)
Waterfowl season is less then 2 weeks away and I can't wait to get Ruger out for the first time. He's still a little young for "big" water, but he's doing great and ready for short, shallow water hunts. Last night I worked him with a couple of scented dummies, hidden in thick grass. We walked around the pasture and when he caught scent, he quartered ground until he found the dummy. It was really cool to watch.
I only have a couple of meetings this week, bu next week is going to be a busy one. I have to go over to Olympia at least one day (maybe two) and have meetings the rest of the week. The Governor recently sent out an email letting the Legislature know she thinks we'll be looking at a $2 million budget problem in November, instead of the $1.3 billion announced a couple of weeks ago. Is waiting until November 28th for a Special Session worth an addition $700 million in deficits? I sure don't think so.

We learned this morning that the Governor will call a Special Session of the Legislature, likely starting at the end of November. Last weeks revenue forecast projected a $1.3 billion budget deficit, after only 3 months into the 2011-13 biennial budget. If the state spends approximately $40 million a day, which is does, how much bigger will the deficit be at the end of November? Another $1.3 billion? $1.8 billion? $2.4 billion?
Folks email, call or write the Governor and tell her now if the time to start addressing the budget shortfall and waiting until November is simply irresponsible. If not now, when? If not us, who?

2011 Legislative Session
Day 93 - Another day on the House Floor to run a few bills. Today is another House cut-off, which means we should have a fairly early evening. It sounds like the Democrat Majority only has 4 or 5 bills to run today, which explains why we needed to be here at 10:00 am and have yet to take a single vote.
Other headlines ... It seems the Democrat Majority didn't understand what the Taxpayers said last November ... NO NEW TAXES! Forty-eight Democrats signed onto a bill to end $170 million in tax exemptions or "loop-holes" as they like to call them. Unfortunately, these aren't tax exemptions or loop-holes, they are tax incentives and ending them is a tax increase. Thankfully Initiative 1053 passed last November which means eliminating any tax incentives will require a 2/3 vote. According to various Democrat quotes in the news "there is an interest in a revenue bill". Maybe interest from various unions, but no interest from the general public. With 9 Democrat freshmen signed onto the bill, the future for Washington State is clearly on display if they remain in charge.
In other news ... Although it didn't get much press, the Democrat Majority has introduced several "Title Only" bills. Title only bills are just that, Title Only which means the Democrats can put any amendment on it they want to. Gotta love the transparency with these guys.
And finally ... About the only thing that can be said about the Democrat's budget and their revenue proposals is these are yet another shining example of failed leadership and no prioritized spending.

2011 Legislative Session
Days 67 and 68 - It has been an incredibly busy and hectic couple of days. I've had a lot of meetings, both committee and with constituents, on a variety of issues. The revenue forecast came out today and projected a net decreased of $778 million for the 2009-2011 and 2011-2013 biennia. Not real good news for the taxpayers of Washington.
Yakima County Republican Chairman, Max Golladay, came over yesterday (Wednesday) and spent the afternoon meeting with the Yakima County delegation. Max stayed with me last night and we went to diner to get caught up on everything going on back home. It was really great seeing him ... It really refueled me for the fight. I'm refocused and ready to go.
The next couple of days will be rather interesting. We're gearing up for some major legislation over the next couple of weeks. Should be fun.
