April 26th - 2013 Regular Legislative Session Day 103

It’s Friday in Olympia and we have three days of Regular Session left. It is physically impossible to end the session on time, so Special Session will start Monday or shortly thereafter. As I’ve mentioned several times, this session has been very, very different and it has only gotten stranger over the past several days. We didn’t work last Friday, Saturday or Sunday (strange) and have been done around 4:00 PM every day this week. Typically, we’re running until 10:00 or 11:00 PM this time of year. The Democrat Majority is doing everything they can to make a show of acting busy … folks, we are not busy and they are wasting time and taxpayers money pretending to be. To top it all off, yesterday the Senate announced they were done and it was time for the Democrat Majority in the House to get their act together … the House Democrats response, gavel the day to an end. Ugh! I wonder if Olympia is nice in July.

Things have slowed to a snail’s pace in Olympia. We have a total of 6 bills on the"Concurrence/Dispute” Calendar and 5 on the"Green” Sheet. Only 11 total bills to run in two days, yet we’re headed to Special Session. Can anyone say"Lack of Leadership”? Look where 12 years of one party control has gotten us. Ugh!

My dad called this morning and told me my aunt made it through the night. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

2012 Regular Legislative Session Day 58

I received word my aunt was not doing well, so I drove to Ellensburg to see her last night. Those of you who know my Aunt Paula, knows how wonderful she is and how important she is in my life. It’s tough seeing her right now, but I thank God I was able to see her and say goodbye. Please pray for her.

I drove back to Olympia last night in a massive snow storm. It was not a fun drive, but at least the irrigation outlook keeps getting better with each storm.

We’re back on the House Floor this morning to run a few bills on the"Concurrence/Dispute” Calendar and several bills on the"Green” Sheet. It sounds like it will be another early day, which means a Special Session is more and more likely. This has been a very difficult session for me personally. Please know that your thoughts and prayers have kept me strong and given me the courage to stand strong.

Yesterday, I went to church with Richard DeBolt and his family and ended up spending the entire day with them. I had a great day and really needed it. We’re working through the"concurrence/dispute” calendar again today and the rumor is we’ll have a couple of easy days here on the House Floor. Translation ... Special Session.

2012 Regular Legislative Session Day 55

Ok folks, someone please send me the results from the GOP Caucus’s back in the Yakima area, please. We’re back on the House Floor this afternoon to run 5 bills on the"Green Sheet” and a whole bunch of bills on the"Concurrence/Dispute” Calendar.

If you haven’t already heard, the Senate Republicans took over the Senate last night and kicked some serious butt. The passed out a true bi-partisan budget that did not cut Levy Equalization, did not rely on the 25th Month payments and did not include tax increases. If you have a Republican Senator or if your Senator is Senator Tom, Kastama or Sheldon, please contact them and thank them for doing what’s right for Washington State.

It’s going to me a long day with a lot of sitting around waiting for the Democrat Majority to decide what they want to do. They’re a little edgy after the meltdown in the Senate last night. Hehehe ... I love it.

One last thought, I met a truly great man yesterday ... Thank you Pastor Scott for your words of encouragement.

2011 Legislative Session

Day 94 - The Senate unveiled their proposed Operating Budget last night and it's interesting at best. In addition to even greater cuts to K-12 Education, it also relies on $350 million in what most certainly will be ruled tax increases. Reliance on these tax increases may put the entire budget process in jeopardy.

We lost the Cougar Bill to yesterday's cut-off. This is very bad news to the citizens of the 15th District, but the is one more opportunity to get the program extended and we'll be fighting to see it happen. The bill would have extended the pilot program another 5 years and continue to allow counties to opt into the program. Keep in mind that last summer there were three different cougars reported in the Zillah area.

We're going to be running the Concurrence/Dispute Calendar for the next couple of days. The Concurrence/Dispute Calendar are the bills which passed the House, but were amended in the Senate and is the House's opportunity to concur or dispute the amendment. The Ways and Means Committee will be meeting the next three afternoons on bill which are necessarily to implement the budget. We'll also be on the Floor Saturday and Sunday this weekend. Thankfully there are only 11 more days in the Regular Session, but a Special Session may be looming on horizon.
