January 31st - 2013 Regular Legislative Session Day 18

We're getting briefed on the Natural Resource Agencies budgets today ... revenue from the Discover Pass is running $27.9 million less than projected. I really can't say I'm surprised. Nearly everyone who has ever contacted me about the Discover Pass was opposed to it.

2011 2nd Special Legislative Session

Yet another fun-tastic day in Olympia. We still haven't taken a single vote yet, but tomorrow is another day. I'm sitting in the General Government Appropriations Committee right now hearing about how bad the implementation of the Discovery Pass really has been. Gee, is it to soon to say "we told you so"? The projected revenue was $64 million and now there's a projected revenue shortfall of $24 million. Huh, did someone forget to ask the public if they liked the idea in the first place ... guess not.

The 2011 National Final Rodeo kicks off tonight and some of us are getting together to watch it. Yeehaw!

Tomorrow is another day of committee meetings and it looks like I'll hit Mossyrock on Saturday for a little ranch sorting at Tim Kunka's place. Looking forward to it.

November 12, 2011

Well the winter storm warning for the Cascades was right on the money. We had a little trouble getting a load of cattle and a horse over White Pass night and had to drive up there at about 9:00 PM to get the rig of the hill. Fun times had by all. Thankfully everyone and everything got home just fine. I finally got home around 12:30 AM.

Back to building fence today.

July 11, 2011

Wow, an interesting few days. Let's see, Brock played in his final Summer Baseball League tournament over the weekend. The kids played well at times, but didn't win any of their games. Brock seemed to enjoy the season, met some great kids and played for a couple of really good coaches.

Molly finally got her chickens on Saturday ... by Sunday 4 had escaped and were running around the yard. Fun times had by all, but we did get 4 farm fresh eggs yesterday. We also got a few pigs on Saturday and a new dog. Looks like I'll be hunting again real soon, with a new Black Lab.

I've been receiving a lot of email from constituents regarding the new Discover Pass. The idea was junk during session, which is why I voted against it, and is junk now that it's being enforced. I would encourage everyone to read through the exemptions before buying one ... you might not need to. Interestingly, the law has been in place 11 days and now we're hearing "we might need to make some changes to it". Seriously?!?!?!? Yet another example of passing a law in order to do "something" and fixing it later. Ladies and Gentlemen, you can't fix stupid.

2011 First Special Legislative Session

Day 14 - We were called back to Olympia today to vote on what could be 18 bills, but then again maybe not. We convened at 11:00 am and then broke for lunch from 12:30 to 2:00 pm ... Seriously, great use of time guys! We finally have a run list of 6 bills for right now. We might work into the evening, might work tomorrow morning or we might be done around 5:00 pm ... Nobody seems to know for sure.

I ended up driving over this morning ... White Pass was clear and beautiful. Had I not been driving back to Olympia the drive would have been great. It looks like the weather is finally turning good in the Yakima Valley with high's in the mid 70's through Wednesday. Let the grass grow, baby. We still have a few cows to turn out and at least on mare that should foal sometime next week.

With any luck I'll be home early tomorrow or Wednesday and have a few days to continue my quest to get things caught up around the place. Slowly but surely, I'll get it done.
