I started my day with a Government Operations and Elections Committee hearing on four bills. House Bill 1091 which changes the provisions relating to presidential electors to assign electoral votes to the winner of a congressional district. House Bill 1211 is related to providing the public with voter pamphlets for primary elections. House Bill 1278 would require prepaid postage for ballot envelopes. House Bill 1290 is related to requiring county auditors to place ballot drop boxes at colleges and universities at a ratio of one drop box per three thousand students, school district headquarters and high schools.

Good morning all! It was a long, disappointing night for a lot of people, but the sun is rising on another promising day. For me, last night marked the end of a long, difficult campaign cycle. I am proud to have received almost 64% of the vote and thank all my supporters for their help this year. I am blessed to have the opportunity to represent the 15th District in Olympia and simply want to say"thank you” to everyone for their support. Now the real work begins.
I also want to congratulate Matt Shea and Jason Overstreet on their victories last night. The voters in the 4th and 42nd Districts are lucky to have two great, principled men representing them in Olympia. I’ve spent quite a bit of time with these men and their families and am proud to call them friends. If you haven’t met Matt or Jason, friend them on Facebook … you won’t be disappointed.
As we watch the returns continue to come in over the next few days, the outcome of a few races could change. We’re watching Dan Griffey’s race (35th) very closely and hope that he can pull out victory in the coming days. It doesn’t appear the composition of the State House of Representatives is going to change all that much … maybe gain a couple of seats … and that is not good news for Washington State taxpayers.
Folks, the real work begins now!

Greets friends and neighbors, it's been a while since I last posted and I'm sorry about that. We're getting close to getting the remodel/update completed ... yea ... and are working hard to get everything done by August 3rd. Ok, so the reality is we’ll probably be finishing up odds and ends the following week, but we’re getting closer to every day. We should have 95% of the new floor laid in the next 36 hours, with only the kitchen and utility room left. A special thanks to Eric Torres who been helping me with the big jobs.
Although she beat me to it, I am proud to announce a new member to our campaign team. We asked Autumn Torres to join us as our Campaign Manager and she accepted. We’re excited to have Autumn working for us. If anyone is interested in hosting an event or volunteering, please let Autumn know.

2012 Regular Legislative Session Day 4
Here we go again. I'm in this morning's State Government and Tribal Affairs Committee meeting hearing HB 2204 that would allow people to register to vote up to 5:00 PM on the day of an election. This bill should have been titled "An Act to perpetrate election fraud". Those testifying in support ... UW Students, Kind County Democrats, WA Students Association, WA BUS, Statewide Poverty Network, and the League of Women Voters. This is a very bad idea and needs to be put down.
Now we're hearing HB 2205 which would allow 16 and 17 year olds to register to vote. The bill would create a second voter registry that would sit idle until a person reaches the age of 18. The people testifying in support ... UW Students, WA BUS, King County Democrats, WA Students Association, and the League of Women Voters. It’s another bad bill.
These bills are great examples of the desperate actions the Democrats are willing to take to secure election success in the future.

Washington State is at a cross-roads and it is this election that will define our future. For the last six years, the State General Fund Budget has grown by over 26% even through the hard economic times we’re facing. It’s time we send a message to Olympia; the era of big government is over. It’s time that a new transparent and accountable government lead Washington State out of this recession.
Folks, Washington State simply cannot tax, spend or borrow its way out of a $5.0 billion deficit. We need to fundamentally change the way government operates, increase local control over decisions that lead to economic gain, remove the bureaucratic roadblocks State government consistency places in front of its citizens, and return to the “Priorities of Government”.
The Washington State Constitution is very explicit in declaring what government is mandated to do. Protect public health and safety (including the most vulnerable in our society), provide for the education of all children and provide infrastructure. These should be the “Priorities of Government” and these are the areas in which the Legislature must focus its attention.
Next, we must pass sound economic policies which promote free enterprise, privatization of government programs where feasible, reform the onerous regulation on our businesses, and provide the tax incentives necessary to promote expansion of existing businesses.
Finally, we must expand local control to provide local governments with the tools they need to recruit new businesses to Washington State. To paraphrase Thomas Jefferson, “the government closest to the people, governs best.” We must allow our locally elected officials (City Councils and County Commissioners) the power to meet the needs of the people they serve. We must remove bureaucratic oversight from their decisions and, in doing so, return the power to the electorate.
This election will define our future and I ask for your support this November.
