We were able to get a lot done in yesterday’s General Government Appropriations and Oversight Committee meeting, so today’s meeting should be pretty short. We have six bills in the General Government Appropriations and Oversight Committee to take Executive Action on and then we’re done. I have a meeting at noon with Rep’s Overstreet and Shea to discuss a bill and an HROC Meeting at 2:30 PM. Should be a fairly straight forward day for me.
We’re still sitting in the Committee waiting for the Democrats to decide what they want to do on the six bills on the Executive Calendar. Senate Bill 6120 has two proposed amendments that would appear to have the Democrats split and with our no votes the amendments will fail. I love when a plan comes together.

2012 Regular Legislative Session Day 45
I think I’m finally getting sick. I’ve been able to avoid getting sick all year, but I think it’s finally setting in. Ugh! At least my General Government Appropriations and Oversight Committee meeting was delayed until 9:00 AM this morning. The committee will also be meeting at 1:30 PM this afternoon. It looks like we only had 8 bills referred to the committee, so it could be a fairly short meeting this morning.
We have a short Floor Session scheduled for 10:00 AM today and then we’ll be caucusing on the Operating Budget and Capital Budget. The Democrat Majority released their proposed budget yesterday and it doesn’t look good at all. Rumor has it we’ll be debating the Operating Budget on Friday and passing it on Saturday. Apparently the Democrats are in a hurry to get the proposed budget over to the Senate by Monday ... I don’t know why, but that’s what we’ve been told.
With only 15 days left in the Regular Session, things are going to be getting ramped up again. I can honestly say this has been a crazy, weird, crappy, foolish, stupid session.

2012 Regular Legislative Session Day 25
After a 9-1/2 hour General Government Appropriations and Oversight Committee meeting yesterday, I started the day in a General Government Appropriations and Oversight Committee meeting this morning. We’re down to 14 possible bills to take Executive Action on this afternoon in the same committee. It’s another crazy day for me.
We received the new Floor Calendar which is now 4 pages long. I don’t expect a lot of floor action today, but do expect a lot of action next week. Some of the highlights ... some good and some bad:
HB 2232 creating a"Government to Government” relation between State Agencies and Indian Tribes.
HB 2233 creating a process to provide for criminal and civil retrocession to Indian Tribes.
HB 2456 protecting agricultural proprietary information from public disclosure.
I’ll be taping with TVW again next and will post the day and time it will be televised.

2012 Regular Legislative Session Day 24
[Resent id=16953481 2012-02-02 18:54:28 from davidtaylor] The first of 2 very long days is underway. I’m in the General Government Appropriations and Oversight Committee meeting this morning and we’re scheduled to be in the hearing until 6:00 PM tonight. We have 20 bills up for public hearing and 28 bills scheduled for executive action. Two hours into the hearing and we’ve heard 7 bills and took executive action on 2 others. This is going to be a very long day.
Tomorrow is going to be just as long. The General Government Appropriations and Oversight Committee is meeting at 8:00 AM, followed by a floor session at 10:00 and back into the General Government Appropriations and Oversight Committee at 1:30 PM. The appropriations cut-off is tomorrow at 5:00 PM, so time is on our side.

2012 Regular Legislative Session Day 23
I’ve started my day in the General Government Appropriations and Oversight Committee discussing 3 of the 8 bills related to the Discover Pass. Had the proponents of the Discover Pass listened to some of us last year many of the issues we’re discussing now would have been resolved. The Parks Commission actually said they wouldn’t really be enforcing the Discover Pass, except that in the 6 months since the Discover Pass became required, various State Agencies have issued over 4000 citations. Ugh!
We have a Floor Session scheduled for this morning as well. It doesn’t look like there’s a lot of controversial bills slated for today, so things should go quickly. Tomorrow, however, is going to be a grind. The General Government Appropriations and Oversight Committee is meeting from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM ... this is going to be a very long day.
