January 28th - 2013 Regular Legislative Session Day 15

What an incredible weekend. There were approximately 170 people at the RLC kick-off in Yakima on Saturday. I had the privilege of speaking and we recorded a Freedomcast episode at the event.


It was great meeting so many wonderful people from all over the state. We also attended the Yakima County Cattlemen’s Annual Western Party. They had a huge turnout and it was great seeing so many friends. I was able to spend Sunday with family and friends before heading back to Olympia. God is great!

It’s been a busy morning so far. I started the day recording a radio show with Reps Matt Shea and Jason Overstreet and then spent the next 45 minutes trying to find my wallet that turned out was on the floor at the house I stay out. We had Caucus this morning as well and now I’m reviewing draft legislation in my office. It was must be Monday.

January 23rd - 2013 Regular Legislative Session Day 10

Good Wednesday morning to everyone. Rep Bruce Chandler and I held a tele-townhall last night that went really well. It was great hearing about the issues folks back home are concerned with. I really appreciate everyone taking time out of their day to participate.

I reviewing several pieces of legislation right now and am still waiting for my last two bill drafts to review for introduction. I should have a couple of bills on today’s Introduction Sheet and will post those later today. Until then, have a great day.

This past week we had Committee Assembly in Olympia. I still haven’t figured out the purpose of bringing everyone to Olympia for Committee meetings immediately following an election, especially considering some of us won’t be serving on the same committees in January. I currently serve on four committees, but two of those committees were recently reorganized as part of several other committees and in 2013 won’t exist in form or function. It doesn’t make any sense, but it’s Olympia and it’s not meant to make sense.

I was able to work on several pieces of possible legislation over the past several days and hope to have some language finalized over the next couple of weeks. We’re currently working on language for bills related to elections, property rights and taxation, among others. We’ll be posting links to the legislation, once completed … stay tuned.

2012 Regular Legislative Session Day 32

It’s been a fairly busy morning here in Olympia. We voted on several bills first thing this and then went to Caucus to discuss the 5 pages of bills the Democrat Majority want to run over the next several days. It sounds like the majority party wants to run into the late evening, but hasn’t given us any rational reasoning behind it. More games I suppose.

We’re getting ready to break for lunch and then back on the House Floor to debate more bills.

It’s amazing how often I’m reminded what 10 years of one party control has created in Washington State.

2012 Regular Legislative Session Day 15

It looks like we’re going to kick off the third week of Session with floor debate and passage of legislation. There are a remarkable number of"do nothing” bills working through the process this year. I guess the Democrat Majority thinks if we look busy the public will forget we’re doing nothing to address the $1.5 billion budget deficit. The first 5 bills of the day ... 1 Yes vote and 4 No votes. Things are getting back to normal around here.

I have a fairly busy day, with Committee meetings at 1:30 and 6:00 PM and an assortment of meetings scattered throughout the day. Actually, the entire week is going to be fairly busy with a lot of meetings being rescheduled from last week. At least the snow is almost gone here in Olympia.

WA Wolf Plan

This is not good news at all. The plan and the EIS failed to consider the economic impacts associated with wolves, failed to properly address public health concerns and the Commission failed to coordinate with local governmental entities. Looks like it's time for new legislation.

2011 First Special Legislative Session

Day 29 Update 2 - So the Governor and House Democrat Majority gave us a list of 12 bills we need to pass to get the session over with ... the latest run list includes 5 bills, but only one is on the "go home" list. NICE! Tonight will be a late one for us. We broke at 6:00 PM for dinner until 7:00 and at 8:50 PM we are finally debating bills. Even better! What an incredible waste of time and money!

2011 First Special Legislative Session

Day 26 - We're back in Olympia, having been called back today through Wednesday. It sounds like it could be a very long few days. Right now there are five key bills necessary to implement the budget and there is absolutely no agreement on any of them. We do have 17 bills on a run list for the day, but if previous days of this Special Session are any indication we may or may not run any of them. Frustrating ...

I was able to get quite a bit down around the house this week and am almost done with updating the pens. With any luck we'll actually end the session before next Wednesday and I'll be able to get the rest of the pens done and ready for work.
