Less Government, Lower Taxes and More Freedom - 2014 Legislative Session Day 2

Next is a briefing regarding the Governor’s proposal regarding the purchasing of behavior health services. The third briefing is related to the Governor’s State Health Innovation Plan. The final briefing of the day relates to changes to the Children’s Long-term Impatient Program.

September 24, 2011

I went over to Olympia on Thursday to deliver beef to two customers, spent the night and went to my State Government and Tribal Affairs Committee meeting Friday morning. I gambled on whether the Hwy 12 construction would be going on Friday afternoon and lost ... 4+ hours to drive from Olympia to Moxee, yikes.

Yesterday, the Columbian Newspaper ran an article (www.columbian.com/news/2011/sep/22/special-session...pport) regarding the budget deficit and November 28th Special Session. According to the article Rep. Tim Probst (D-Vancouver) noted "that over the past four years, the Legislature has cut the size of state government to 1988 levels." Come on Rep. Probst, 1988 levels? Really? The 1987-89 biennial operating budget was $10.176 billion and the 2011-2013 biennial operating budget is approximately $32 billion. There is simply no way WA State could initiate budget cuts to 1988 levels. Heck, I doubt we could even make 1998 budget levels.
