January 18th - 2013 Regular Legislative Session Day 5

The Local Government Committee meeting on the Growth Management Act went very, very well. We had 19 members of the public testify and 17 of them testified about the serious problems associated with the Growth Management Act. Some mentioned specific examples of government taking property rights, others discussed the impact regulations have had on businesses and others spoke about the links to international laws and policies. The testimony was spot on and impactful. I had an opportunity to speak with several of the folks in attendance and thanked them for speaking up.

Its days like today that give me hope and remind me that people support freedom and liberty throughout Washington State.

Now that I’m back from Olympia and getting into the groove of regular life, I decided it was time to send out a post. Here goes ...

Molly called me this morning and said she just bought unleaded fuel for $4.27 a gallon. Folks, this is not by accident, it is designed specifically to make people more dependent on government. Look at it this way ... if fuel is expensive, people begin to look for cheaper alternatives and public transit is one of those alternatives. Who runs public transit ... government. The Growth Management Act is specifically designed to MAKE people live in cities, where government has greater control over their lives. Ever heard of Agenda 21 or Smart Growth? Washington’s version is the Growth Management Act and its implementation deprives people of life and property each and every day around the state. Every year in Olympia, we see bills specifically designed to"encourage” people to use transit. There are even bills to require transit be designed into private development, yet the majority in Olympia will fight to ensure regulatory schemes are in place to discourage any development ever occur. Their solution ... TAX. Tax the people, tax businesses, tax fuel, tax food, tax, tax tax.

People wake up. We still have time to put this state and nation on the right path. Start asking questions and make people accountable for their responses. No longer accept status quo, demand reform, demand a future for our children. If not now WHEN and if not us WHO!

2012 Regular Legislative Session Days 8 and 9

Today was the first day of the 2012 Legislative Session that we took action on legislation. We voted on a small set of bills from the 2011 session, all of which do nothing to address the budget deficit. I’m sitting in the State Government and Tribal Affairs Committee right now listening to testimony on 6 bills that, once again, do nothing to address the budget deficit. I suppose you could argue that HB 222 does do something to address the budget. This is a bill allowing the state library to recover costs associated with research requests from people who are not residents ... total increase in revenue $45k. Ugh! There’s also a bill designating July 25th as patient safety day ... now this is an important issue for the Legislature.

I have quite a few meetings this week, but am really looking forward to seeing some folks from home. The Realtors will be in town this week and always enjoy seeing them. AWB will also be in town on Tuesday ... yeah, another opportunity to see more folks from the 15th District. I’m going to head back home this weekend to attend the Yakima Association of Realtors Installation Dinner.

So I somehow forgot to post this yesterday, sorry everyone. I woke up this morning to about 8 inches of snow in the driveway ... yikes! It took me 45 minutes to drive to the Evergreen Freedom Foundation to do a radio show with Rep. Matt Shea. I hope folks back in the district were able to hear it. I missed my first committee meeting of the day due to the radio show and trying to drive to the Capital from the EFF recording studio. People in Olympia DO NOT know how to drive in the snow.

I heard yesterday the Senate Ways and Means Committee (budget committee) has cancelled all their hearings for the second week in a row and according to our budget lead, Rep. Gary Alexander, the House Democrats have done nothing in the way of working on a budget thus far. Ugh!

2011 2nd Special Session Day 5 and 6

I was able to get thing done fairly early on Saturday, so I ran down to Mossyrock to Tim Kunka's horse training facility to do a little ranch sorting, check our cattle and see how our two young horses are doing. I was not disappointed ... the cattle look really good, the horses seem to be coming along and the ranch sorting was a lot of fun. A couple of really nice ladies let me ride their horses for the sorting. The first one was a little soft mouthed, which made things interesting and when I set my spurs to the little mare started to hump up and buck a bit. I just kept her sorting until she worked through her little spasm. The second horse never bucked, but it was obvious she didn't appreciate my style either. One of the ladies said, "you ride more aggressive then I do. I've never seen her buck like that before." Man I needed that after a week in Olympia.

I got a call Saturday night from Jack Fields (Washington Cattlemen's Association Executive VP) to tell me the Fish and Wildlife Commission adopted an amended Wolf Management and Conservation Plan. Needless to say I was disappointed to hear that, especially after several Legislators sent the Commission a letter asking them to delay consideration until after the USFWS completes their status review. We also asked the Commission to tell the Legislature what they were going to cut in order to implement the plan.

I went to Fred Meyers this morning and the checker showed me a picture of a wolf someone she knows killed in Idaho this year. I guess the cowboy hat was her cue to show me. :-) I ended up talking to her and 3 other people about wolves in Washington. It's amazing more people don't know how many wolves are all ready here! Time to educate the masses.

I'm doing some laundry this morning and researching options to address the Wolf Plan. Interestingly, the Department of Fish and Wildlife has removed a required link to Wolf Reports from their website. Time to rattle some cages. I've also been looking into the depth of Agenda 21 infiltration in State Government. It's not pretty. For an example check out www.ecy.wa.gov/sustainability/index.html.
